Do Well and Doubt Not

Do Well and Doubt Not (2012)

Do Well and Doubt Not was a fanzine for Tottenham published in 2012 and produced following the riots of 2011. The publication took its name from the old town motto, pictured below in the former town hall.

The publication, commissioned by Spacemakers, was made up of a series of conversations, sometimes individual over a cup of tea, sometimes conducted in pairs walking from one part of the area to another. These conversations formed the texts for the publication, intended to show the messy nature of places – and life in general – and the fears, hopes, and realities of what it meant to be in Tottenham at that moment.

The powers that be tried to ban it right at the end as they thought it was too controversial. This was despite the approach and editorial tone being signed off throughout. Anyway long story short is that we distributed it anyway out of respect to those residents who had given up their time to be part of it. Then got told by the head of the regeneration department that I would never work in London again. And that they were going to sue me.

Fortunately (for me) the woman in charge was made redundant and I have since managed to remain employed in the city. Tbh there wasn’t anything controversial in there, have a look yourself by clicking on the image below.
